Aegyptopithecus zeuxis Skull, Museum Quality (Replica)

Item #SS3005

29-35 MYA. Also called the “Dawn Ape”, Aegyptopithecus is an early fossil catarrhine that predates the divergence between hominoids and old world monkeys. With its long snout and small brain case, it bears a close resemblance to adapids (modern lemurs and lorises); however, its dentition points to a relationship to Old World higher primates (monkeys and apes). A sagittal crest developed in older individuals and extends over the brow ridges. Aegyptopithecus fossils have been found primarily in modern-day Egypt. They were most likely a diurnal, arboreal quadruped. Stand available.

This museum quality replica is cast from an exactingly-produced sculpture, based on photographs, descriptions and precise measurements of original fossils.
