Green Tiger Beetle in Resin

These long-legged, fast running beetles are the most common of British tiger beetles. They like warm, sunny environments and can be found in the forests of Europe across Siberia. Because they love the sun, these bugs are most abundant in the summer months, most of all in May and June. Tiger beetles are slender, predatory beetles with sickle-shaped mandibles, large, bulging eyes, and long, thread-like antennae. They get their name from their predatory skill – they are quick to pounce on insect prey and some species can run as fast as 5 mph. This specimen is set in transparent lucite resin, making it a great decorative piece or educational display.
