PAINTED BEAUTY BUTTERFLY - BATESIA HYPOCHLORA

THE SCIENCE:

The Neapolitan Butterfly (also known as the Painted Beauty), Batesia hypochlora, boasts an unusual, lovely admixture of dark metallic-blue and brick-red on its topsides, while the undersides mirror the red from the top along with yellow hindwings and yellow-ochre around the edges. Wingspans within this species can reach anywhere between 3.3 and 3.7 inches. It’s found throughout the Upper Amazon forest areas, especially those in Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru. Males are more often encountered in the wild, and females are slightly larger than males- as are the case with many other butterfly species.

THE STORY:

B. hypochlora’s visual charm is absolutely contagious; the species more than lives up to its common name, The Painted Beauty. Order a specimen of this beautiful butterfly today! Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!
