Black Swan – Cygnus atratus

The Black Swan is a large waterbird. It is native to the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. It is nomadic, with erratic migration patterns that are highly dependent upon climatic conditions. It is distinguished from other birds by its large size.

Black Swans are characterized by their black plumage and red bills. They are monogamous breeders and both males and females share the incubation and rearing responsibilities. They were first described scientifically by English naturalist John Latham in 1790.
