The over 1,100 species of bat are incredibly diverse, from the tiny bumblebee bat to giant flying foxes with six-foot wingspans. The forelimbs of a bat are webbed and developed as wings, making them the only mammals capable of sustained flight.
The Brown Bat is one of the most common bats in North America. It can be found across the continent, from northern Mexico up to Alaska. It is an insectivore, eating moths, wasps, beetles, mosquitoes, and other bugs.
