Cape Weaver

Ploceus capensis

Item #TX1030

Cape Weaver – Ploceus capensis

The Cape Weaver is a bird native to South Africa. It is typically found in grasslands, agricultural habitats, and near rivers. They build their nests in trees such as willows and eucalyptuses, as well as reed beds.

Cape Weaver nests are unique in that they hang upside-down off the branch of a tree, with an entrance at the bottom. These clever nests are sometimes usurped by other birds, such as the Hadada Ibis.

The expert artisans at Evolution mounted this specimen on thin piece of driftwood!
