Fossil Dinosaur Tooth – Spinosaurus aegypticus
Spinosaurus means “spined lizard”, referring to this dinosaur's distinctive sail of neural spines. Spinosaurus is known mostly from Egyptian remains, originally discovered in the early 1900s by German paleontologist Ernst Strommer.
This dinosaur lived in North Africa during the Cretaceous Period, about 100 million years ago. Scientists are unsure whether it was primarily a land predator or a fisher. Its elongated jaw, conical teeth, elevated nostrils, and general similarity to modern crocodiles suggest that it was semiaquatic.
