Large Half-Chambered Nautilus

Nautiluses are unique among the ocean's seashells. Evolutionarily, they have remained virtually unchanged for millions of years. For this reason, they are often referred to as “living fossils”, making them right at home in our shop.

At 5 ½” long, this Nautilus specimen is considered quite large. It has been split in half in order to display the beautifully detailed chambers distinctive of this species. The inside of the shell is covered with iridescent mother-of-pearl.
