Life Cycle of Honey Bee - Apis mellifica

The Science:

The Western Honey Bee is native to Europe, Africa and Asia and has been cultivated and kept by humans for thousands of years. A social insect, the Honey Bee collects nectar from flowers, and converts it to honey in its stomach with the addition of digestive enzymes, storing it in the hive. Selective Apiculture (or beekeeping) has resulted in a domesticated breed that produces the surplus honey that we enjoy.

The Story:

This series of specimens mounted in a block of crystal-clear Lucite resin shows the life cycle of the Honey Bee in several stages, from egg to adult, and displays a Worker, Drone, and Queen, samples of Pollen, Wax Comb and Honey. Captured in stunning detail, this is a superb educational display or an unusual piece of science decor for a desk or shelf!

    Amazing!

I ordered two of these to replace the aging ones that we have in our current collection. They are beautiful! I loved the information packet that was provided with them as well.

    Nice educational piece, sturdy

Cool! Good quality piece. Everything is visible and well displayed. The best part of this is seeing the egg and larva life size and holding that in your hand. I wish the adult bees could retain more of their color and details, but I'm sure there's some loss of color as the bees age.
