Pigeons and doves make up the family Combidae, which includes over 300 species if birds. They live almost everywhere in the world, except for Antarctica, the high Arctic and the driest regions of the African Sahara. They have adapted to a wide range of habitats, from tropical rainforests to grasslands and deserts. They also vary considerably in size; the largest pigeons (the Crowned Pigeons of New Guinea) are turkey sized, and the smallest (Ground Doves) are the size of a house sparrow.
