Pigeon Skeleton

Pigeons and doves make up the family Combidae, which includes over 300 species if birds. They live almost everywhere in the world, except for Antarctica, the high Arctic and the driest regions of the African Sahara. They have adapted to a wide range of habitats, from tropical rainforests to grasslands and deserts. They also vary considerably in size; the largest pigeons (the Crowned Pigeons of New Guinea) are turkey sized, and the smallest (Ground Doves) are the size of a house sparrow. This is skeleton is a Rock Pigeon or Rock Dove, a bird originally native to Europe, northern Africa and western Asia that can now be found across the globe. The Rock Pigeon gets its name from its tendency to roost on cliffs and rock ledges in the wild. In urban areas, it generally roosts atop buildings, walls or stone statues. Pigeons eat food mostly found on the ground, like seeds, fruits and food left by humans.
