The European Rabbit, originally native to Spain and Portugal, has been introduced to many countries around the world, like eastern and northern Europe, Australia, and parts of South America, often with devastating effect on the environment. These rabbits are highly social, and live together in elaborate dens that they dig, called “warrens.” When not feeding, rabbits spend almost all of their time in their dens so as to avoid predators. They are grazers, and feed primarily on grass and other plants. They move around by hopping, their powerful legs and light skeletons allowing them to move rapidly. Their long toes are also webbed to keep from spreading apart mid jump. Their light skeletons are also very fragile, however, and so their backs and legs break easily.
