Scorpion in Resin – Urodacus novaehollandiae
Scorpions evolved over 400 million years ago and are reputed to be one of the world’s most fearsome killers. They are easily recognized by their snapping claws and long, curved, pointy tail. A common misconception is that all scorpions are venomous – in fact, over 75% are benign.
This scorpion, however, is venomous. It is indigenous to the coastal regions stretching from South Australia through to Perth in Western Australia. In South Australia it is most commonly found occupying coastal dune areas, digging deep meandering burrows in shell-grit soils.
