Aurora Day-Flying Moth - Urania leilus

THE SCIENCE:

Urania leilus is a diurnal species of moth found in central South America east of the Andes mountains, including Venezuela, Brazil, eastern Peru, eastern Colombia, eastern Ecuador, and northern Bolivia. It has also been found, on rarer occasions, in the central and northern Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean. The species is strongly migratory in behavior, but its populations will seek out one particular type of habitat wherever they go; members of this species thrive along rainforest riverbanks. Its wings are black, with staggering green stripes and (often) patches of blue and white on its hindwings. It is frequently confused for a butterfly species because of its coloration, as well as its diurnality.

THE STORY:

This is a very handsome species of moth. Our specimens, like all our framed insects, are equally handsome displays for any space. Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!

    Aurora Day Flying Moth

Posted by Unknown on Mar 2nd 2020

The Aurora Day Flying moth is smaller in size but very impressive as its markings dazzle in an electric green. The craftsmanship of Evolution is superior to other similar products I have purchased. The Aurora Day Flying Moth is grandiose addition to any collection.
