GLITTER LEAF CHAFER BEETLE - CHRYSOPHORA CHRYSOCHLORA
THE SCIENCE:
Chrysophora chrysochlora is a species of beetle in the Scarabaeidae family found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Members of this species can reach between 1 and 1.6 inches in length. They are a glossy metallic green speckled with gold; this coloration coupled with their granulate texture is reminiscent of glitter, hence the species’ common name. Males are larger than females, and wield strong elongate spurs on the hind legs and enlarged tarsal claws.
