Oxidized Skull Sculpture

The Science:

Patination is a process by which a metal object develops a thin oxidized layer on its surface, whether the dark finish of bronze sculpture or the pale green color of copper roofing or bronzes exposed to the elements. Artists control and utilize the chemical reactions of different metals, acids and heat to create colors similar to the wild array of colors found in the mineral realm, many of which are created naturally by similar oxidization.

The Story:

This hand-sized sculpture is one of a series of superb cast skulls called Oxidations created by talented Spanish artist Javier Murcia. Based on an original female Caucasian skull, Murcia sculpted the miniature-sized original by hand and had it cold-cast in bronze resin - a resin mixed with actual bronze powder. Because the resin is full of real metal, it can be oxidized and patinated like a bronze object, and chemical processes can be used to produce striking visual effects. Each piece is unique in appearance, since no two will oxidize in exactly the same way. A remarkable piece of Anatomy Decor, this unique piece of art is a treasure!

Each piece is an original, signed by the artist, and identified by its number. It comes with its own lucite stand, snugly packaged in a dark-stained Maple box. This is a highly collectable item… Make it yours today!
