Precious Wentletrap
Epitonium scalare

The Precious Wentletrap is a predatory, parasitic species of marine gastropod. This seashell was considered to be extremely rare in the 17th and 18th centuries, and was sold for large sums of money.

Precious Wentletraps are native to the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean along the coasts of Madascar and South Africa, and in the Southwest Pacific Ocean along the coasts of the Fiji Islands and Japan. They are unique among shells because of their striking structure.

Evolution carries an extensive line of decorative seashells!
