OMMON GREEN BIRDWING - ORNITHOPTERA PRIAMUS

THE SCIENCE:

Ornithoptera priamus is a widespread species of birdwing butterfly found across much of Southeast Asia (particularly on many islands spanning the southwestern Pacific Ocean), as well as across much of northern Australia. This species is named after Priam, the reigning king of Troy during the Trojan War. It is a sexually dimorphic species in size and coloration. The topsides of the males’ wings are a striking combination of electric lime-green and velvety black, while their undersides are a dark bluish-green. Their abdomens are a bright yellow. Females, in contrast, are pretty much dark brown all over- and are larger than males on average.

THE STORY:

Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!

    Arrived broken

Christmas gift for my sister. Very disappointed. When unwrapped, frame was intact, but only 1/2 of the body and one wing left intact; butterfly was broken into numerous pieces. Will be returning.

    Unmatched Beauty

Posted by anthony on Aug 19th 2017

I had bought a framed Blue Morpho for my wife a few years back from a vendor at the Texas State Fair that was AMAZING ! It, however, was in a light wood frame and i would have liked to have started my collection with a black frame. Still, it is the special first. Just bought this green Priam's Birdwing's in a black frame from The Evolution Store ( which i was lucky enough to visit recently ) and is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ! ! ! They are going to be hung in our kitchen to enhance our verdant view of our back yard. Looking forward to my next jaw-dropping purchase from The Evolution Store ! ! ! Love their stuff ! ! !
