White-Tail Deer Antler, Large – Odocoileus virginianus
The white-tail deer is primarily native to North America, but can also be found as far south as Peru. Judging from fossilized remains, it appears that this remarkable animal has maintained its basic structure for the past four million years.
Every year, deer shed their
antlers and regrow them. Made of a hard, bony material, antler has been
utilized by man for thousands of years, and sometimes sheds bear traces of
gnawing from animals who chew on them for their calcium. These naturally-shed antlers have not been polished and preserve their
natural texture. Each is a unique specimen.
