Jade Turban – Turbo imperialis

The Jade Turban is a species of large sea snail that has gills and an operculum (a type of trapdoor placed at the shell's opening). It is distinguished from other shells because of its unique spiral shape and thick shell.

Turban Snails are believed to have first evolved during the Upper Cretaceous Period (100 million years ago). These shells are a favorite choice of home for the Caribbean Hermit Crab (also known as the Purple Pincher).
