The Ring-Necked Pheasant is a breed of Common Pheasant. These birds are native to the Caucasus region and Russia, but have been widely introduced to other regions of the world as a well-known game bird.
Ring-Necked Pheasants were first described in 1758 by Linnaeus in his Systema naturae. The scientific name is derived from the region of Colchis (near modern-day Georgia), where the bird was thought to first have originated.
