African Spur Thighed Tortoise
Geochelone sulcata
The African Spurred Tortoise inhabits the southern edge of the Sahara desert, in Northern Africa. It is the third largest species of tortoise in the world and is the largest species of mainland tortoise (i.e., not found on an island).
This is an absolutely huge shell of a domestically-raised tortoise. A stupendous addition to any collection, it has been varnished to bring out the deep and subtle coloration of the shell.
