Tuatara Skull (Replica)

Sphnenodon punctatus

Item #SS366

Tuatara Skull Sphnenodon punctatus

Native to New Zealand. The Tuatara is one of only two surviving members of the order Sphenodontia which flourished around 200 MYA. Their teeth are unique among living species with two rows of teeth in the upper jaw which overlap the one row of teeth in the lower jaw. The Tuatara has a number of unusual features including a pronounced parietal eye, the purpose of which is the subject of ongoing research, and they are able to hear although no external ear is present.

This museum quality replica is exactingly cast from an outstanding natural specimen, and hand-finished to match the original. Made in California using polyurethane resin to capture the finest details.
