The Scarlet Mormon Butterfly - Papilio rumanzovia
THE SCIENCE:
Papilio rumanzovia is a species of butterfly within the family Papilionidae. It’s native to Southeastern Asia, particularly in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan. The species was named after Nicholas Rumanzow, then-Chancellor of the Russian Empire. It boasts a wingspan between 4.72 and 5.51 inches. It’s also a sexually dimorphic species, with males being almost solid-black on their topsides, while the females boast distinct red markings on both their wings’ topsides and undersides (to which the common name “Scarlet Mormon” refers)- and are considerably larger as well.
THE STORY:
Black and red have traditionally been considered colors of true elegance (especially when brought together); members of this species (especially the females) are no exception. Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.
Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!
