Dalmatian Stone Heart
The Science
This rock's black spots are small pieces of the mineral arfvedsonite and the cream colored matrix is albite, a common feldspar mineral. Dalmatian stone, also known as dalmatian jasper, is a unique variety of jasper that features a white or cream-colored base speckled with black or brown spots, resembling the pattern of a Dalmatian dog. This stone is primarily made of silica with inclusions of hornblende or tourmaline minerals, which create the characteristic spots. What’s fascinating is that dalmatian stone is not actually a true jasper in the strictest sense but a variety of agate, and it is believed to have grounding and protective properties in metaphysical practices. Its cheerful, spotted appearance makes it a popular gemstone for both jewelry and decorative purposes.
