Artist Statement
I am a sophomore studying visual arts at LaGuardia High School. I have been fascinated by nature from a young age, and have always loved learning everything I can about different species and varieties of moths. For example, Falcon Sphinx moths (male and female) can vibrate their genitals as a way to evade bats, which are their natural predators. The vibrations interfere with the bats' echolocation. At my summer camp I rescue the moths that get trapped in the theater building; I don't know why, but they all go there and then get stuck.
If you have a moth or butterfly you would like made, you can email Ella at kwiinyc@gmail.com
