HOWLITE TOWER
The Science
Howlite is a mineral with distinctive veining, often resembling marble. Its crystal structure is relatively soft, which makes it easy to carve and shape for use in jewelry. What’s fascinating about howlite is that it’s sometimes dyed to imitate more expensive gemstones like turquoise, but it can also form beautiful nodules with intricate, natural patterns. Despite its appearance, howlite is much lighter than most similar-looking stones, making it a popular and affordable choice for designers. This mineral was first discovered in a gypsum quarry in 1868 by mineralogist Henry How, for whom it's named.
