Lace Bryozoa - Triphyllozoon moniliferum

The Science

Lace bryozoan are filter-feeders that subsist on plankton they snatch from the water with their small tentacles. They work in colonies to benefit from a division of labor; some focus on defense while others focus on feeding.

The Story

While not classified as coral, lace bryozoa is often referred to as lace coral due to its appearance. This zooid is comprised of delicate, folded sheets that form a coral-like shape. They can be pink or white.
