Larvet Snack - Tenebrio molitor
The Science:
The larvae of beetles and other insects have been eaten in many cultures in many places all around the world, since they are full of protein and often not covered with a tough skin or exoskeleton. From the giant Witchetty grub, a delicacy among the Aboriginal Australians, to the worm in a bottle of Mezcal (which is actually the larva of a moth and also served roasted in Mexico), their tastiness and nutritiousness have made them popular foodstuffs. Though we are probably more familiar with feeding mealworms to pets, they are also perfectly edible for you and me! Not worms at all, but rather the larvae of a type of darkling beetle, they are easy to raise, high in protein and low in fat.
The Story:
Mealworms are pretty tasty, as it turns out. “Larvets” are a classic Evolution Store item, and are consistently popular with our customers. These crunchy Mealworm snacks are a fine way to add some protein to your diet. They come in three savory flavors – BBQ, Cheddar, and Mexican Spice... Try ‘em all, and don’t forget to share ‘em with your friends!
