RABBIT FUR PELTS
THE SCIENCE
Domestic rabbits in Spain are primarily descendants of the European wild rabbit, Oryctolagus cuniculus, which is native to the Iberian Peninsula. In fact, Spain is considered one of the original homelands of the species, and rabbits have played an important role in Spanish ecosystems, agriculture, and culture for centuries. Domesticated varieties were developed from these wild populations and are now kept throughout Spain as pets, for meat production, and for show breeding.
