SODALITE - CARVED STONE OCTOPUS
The Science
Sodalite is a striking blue dium aluminum silicate mineral, known for its deep, rich color, which comes from the presence of sodium and chlorine. Often found in igneous rocks, it forms as a result of high-pressure conditions deep within the Earth’s crust. Sodalite is fascinating because it exhibits a unique fluorescence under ultraviolet light, glowing a bright orange, which is uncommon for blue minerals. Historically, sodalite has been used as a decorative stone in carvings and jewelry, and Mesoamerican civilizations of the Pre-Columbian era are known to have traded for this tone at some of their ancient markets.
The Story
These sodalite octopi are approximately 1" tall and wide.
