The Science
Stellaria solaris, or Sun Shell, is a type of sea snail. Its shell's radial protrusions are practical as well as beautiful. In addition to providing stability, they aid the snail in lifting off the seafloor to graze.
The Story
This snail is found in the Indo-West Pacific, the Red Sea, and the Persian Gulf.
