The Science
The tapestry turbo or turban is a species of sea snail in the family Turbinidae. This species occurs in the Red Sea and in the Indian Ocean off Madagascar, Mozambique, Chagos, and Mauritius. It also occurs also in the West Pacific and from Western Australia to southern Queensland.
The Story
An operculum is an anatomical trapdoor used to shut out predators and trap in water for when the tide gets low. The cat’s eye shell is the operculum for this species of snail.
