Antique Bison Tooth Necklace
The Science
There are currently 2 species of bison still present today and 6 extinct species. Even though the bovine tribe split into cattle and bison 5 to 10 million years ago, there is evidence of a lot of breeding between. Today, the American bison is often found in river valleys, prairies, plains or even some mountainous areas where the hills are not too steep. The European bison prefers slightly more wooded areas. Many indigenous communities have a strong relationship with bison; since the bison represented a main food source for them, many indigenous communities view bison as sacred. The bison teeth sold here are fossils, and do not come from modern day bison.
