WEEVIL - EUPHOLUS SCHOENHERRI

THE SCIENCE:

Eupholus schoenherri is a species of beetle belonging to the family Curculionidae (weevils). Members of this species reach between 1 and 1.2 inches in length. There can be some variation in coloration among members of this species, but most are a shade of metallic blue-green with transverse black bands along the elytra. Their legs are usually bright blue, and the top of the rostrum and the ends of the antennae are black. The species is known to be found in Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. It’s binomial name honors the Swedish entomologist Carl Johan Schönherr (1772-1848), who specialized in beetle taxonomy.
