Copper Earrings
THE SCIENCE:
Copper was the first metal to be manipulated by humans. The Copper Age, named after the element, was the first phase of the Metal Age, a period of human history roughly 6,000 years ago which catalyzed the transition from prehistory to protohistory. Being a ductile and conductive material, copper is often used for electronic components and wiring today. It is also present in more biological environments, such as the ashes of seaweeds, in many sea corals, in the human liver, and in many mollusks and arthropods.
THE STORY:
Hailing from the Ice Age, these earrings are made from copper nuggets formed within a glacier thousands of years ago. All components of this piece, from the posts to the pendants, are made of 100% copper, and because of the nature of its composition, each set of earrings are one of a kind. This is a unique piece of natural history that is not only beautiful, but carries a story spanning back countless millennia.
