The Science:
The image of a human skull was drawn by Jan Wandelaar for Dutch anatomist Bernhard Siegfried Albinus, as an illustration for his famous illustrated anatomical treatise Tabulae Sceleti et Musculorum Corporis Humani (Leiden, 1747). Building on the anatomical illustrations of Vesalius and Eustachius, Albinus and Wandelaar constructed their depictions from the skeleton out, rather than from the typical starting point of a dissection working inwards.
