Guinea Pig
Cavia porcellus
The guinea pig is best known as a common household pet. In fact, guinea pigs are not pigs nor are they originally from Guinea. Rather, they are a type of rodent from the Andes, in South America, where they were domesticated thousands of years ago, principally for food. They are still a popular dish in Peru and Bolivia, and have been introduced as food in Africa as well. Brought back by explorers to Europe, they became popular as pets from the sixteenth century onward.
These guinea pigs are adorable specimens. Their relatively long fur may be patterned with patches of black, gray various shades of brown, and white. Each one is - of course - unique, and varies in appearance. Please let us know if you are interested in a specific type of coloration, as our stock changes from month to month and not all colors are always available.
Our Guinea Pigs were bred to be food for snakes and reptiles. They have been expertly freeze-dried for us to preserve their cuteness!
Individual specimens vary but your item will resemble the pictured example.
