Hematite Beaded Bracelet
The Science
This electrically conductive mineral is harder than pure iron and has historically been used in mourning, jewelry, gilding, and art.
Hematite is known for its metallic luster and deep reddish-brown to silver-gray color. It forms in sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks and is often found as a secondary mineral in iron-rich deposits. What’s fascinating about hematite is that it’s magnetic in certain forms, which makes it an interesting specimen for scientists and collectors alike. Historically, hematite has been used as a pigment for red ochre and is still used in the production of iron and steel today.
