Indochinite- Impactite

The Science

Indochinite is a type of tektite, a natural glass formed when a meteorite strikes the Earth with enough force to liquefy the surrounding rock. This molten material is then ejected into the atmosphere, cools mid-air, and falls back to Earth as solidified glass. Indochinite tektites are predominantly black and are found across Southeast Asia, especially in countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. They are estimated to be around 700,000 years old and are part of the Australasian strewn field—the largest known tektite field on Earth.

The Story

Indochinites are often recognized by their unique shapes and textured surfaces, which form as they cool during atmospheric re-entry. The pitted, aerodynamic forms are not just visually striking; they tell the story of violent impact and fiery transformation. Used for centuries in Southeast Asian folklore and spiritual practice, Indochinite is believed to offer strong grounding energy and psychic protection. Many collectors value it for its raw, ancient energy and connection to cosmic forces. With new finds becoming increasingly rare due to mining restrictions and habitat loss, each piece is a reminder of deep time, planetary change, and celestial influence. We select our Indochinite specimens for their natural form, clarity of origin, and overall presence.
