Ridged Ammonite - Douvilleiceras sp.
The Science
This ammonite is from the Douvilleiceras sp. It was found in Madagascar. It is estimated to be approximately 100 million years old, which places it in the Cretaceous Period.
The Story
Ammonites from this species were found worldwide, which is remarkable during this period of continental drift. These ammonites are sometimes called "tractors" in reference to their knobby shell, which was specially-developed to protect them from their harsh environment. These ammonites are rare and we find that they are often unavailable.
