CRAMER'S EIGHTY-EIGHT BUTTERFLY - DIAETHRIA CLYMENA

THE SCIENCE:

The Cramer's Eighty-Eight Butterfly, Diaethria clymena, is a species of butterfly within the Nymphalidae family. It’s well known for, and its common name references, the astoundingly numeric black and white patterns on the undersides of its hindwings. The topsides are velvety black with diagonal stripes of metallic blue and/or green. All species in the genus Diaethria boast these underwing numeric patterns, varying in color and shape (even between individuals of the same species), and it can be fascinating to compare the variations. This species is found in rainforest and cloud-forest habitats across much of Central and South America. Wingspans range between 1.2 and 1.6 inches.

THE STORY:

Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!
