ATLAS BEETLE - CHALCOSOMA ATLAS

THE SCIENCE

The Atlas beetle, Chalcosoma atlas, is a species of beetle belonging to the Scarabaeidae family. It’s found across much of southern Asia, especially in Malaysia and Indonesia. Like other beetles in the genus Chalcosoma, C. atlas is remarkable in size. While females reach between 1 and 2.4 inches in length as the smaller sex (common sexual dimorphism within Scarabaeidae and other beetle families), males reach between 2.4 and a whopping 5.1 inches. The males have specialized horns on the head and thorax with which they battle each other for mates and territory.

Absolutely stunning, worth the price, worth the wait

Posted by Unknown on Jan 30th 2018

I was initially hesitant about including this piece in my order as it was expensive (I purchased it at $239), but I decided to go for it. It ended up delaying the rest of my order by about 4 weeks as the store got inventory back in, during which time the customer service at The Evolution Store was very helpful and offered to ship me the rest of my order early. I finally got it, and I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase. It honestly made me gasp when I first unwrapped it, it’s a beautiful specimen, perfect centerpiece to a collection. I never write reviews but felt compelled to for this item since I was so unexpectedly pleased with it. Now that I see that the price has been lowered I think that it’s an absolute no brainer to order this piece if it at all interests you, you won’t regret it!
