Hanging Cicada Earrings

The Science:

Cicadas are known for their distinctive mating calls, a rapid series of clicks that are produced using a special organ called a “tymbal” located on the undersides of their abdomens. Only males produce these sounds, and in large groups, they can create a cacophony that can sound like whole forests rustling in the wind. Cicadas are harmless to humans and are even considered a delicacy in many parts of the world.

The Story:

These beautiful cicada earrings are made right here in New York from stamped brass with gold-plated ear wires. Remarkable attention to detail can be seen in the intricate veins of the wings and markings on the body. About two inches in height, these attention-grabbing earrings are lightweight and very unusual. They make a great gift for any insect lover!

    Not What I Expected

There was not a picture of the back of the earrings, and they do not look like cicadas from that side; what I mean is, they are not 3-D modeled from life; instead, they are flattish. The metal was a bit duller than I would have liked, as well. My wife likes them, though.
