JAPANESE RHINOCEROS BEETLE IN RESIN - Allomyrina dichotoma
The Science
This species of Rhinoceros Beetle is native to Japan, where its name - kabutomushi - translates to "insect wearing samurai helmet". The males of this species, as shown here, are graced with an enormous forked horn, which they use to upend other males during mating season. Despite their relatively short lifespan (they only live about four months in their adult form), they are one of the most popular pets in Japan.
