LEPRIEUR’S GLORY BUTTERFLY - ASTEROPE LEPRIEURI

THE SCIENCE:

Leprieur’s Glory, Asterope leprieuri, is a species of butterfly in the Nymphalidae family. It’s found throughout much of the northern half of South America, particularly in Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Peru. Members of this species reach between 1.9 and 2.4 inches. C. leprieuri is an example of a relatively small number of butterfly species with an underside that’s more visually impressive than its topside. While the topside’s amalgam of metallic blue, teal, and black is certainly stunning in its own right, the metallic green, black, and red of the underside (complete with particularly striking spots and marks on the hindwings), is immediately more captivating. The species is named after François Mathias René Leprieur, a renowned French pharmacist and naturalist.

THE STORY:

Leprieur’s Glory is indeed one of our most “glorious” species! We offer both specimens mounted ventrally, and specimens mounted dorsally. Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!
