Megalodon Tooth - Carcharocles megalodon
THE SCIENCE
This tooth is from the species Carcharocles megolodon, which is an extinct type of shark. This specimen was found in South Carolina, but C. megalodon is known to have lived in all oceans. Our megalodon teeth are approximately 10 million years old (Miocene Epoch). Megalodons are believed to have gone extinct because of the cooling waters that were the result of an Ice Age three million years ago.
THE STORY
This megalodon tooth has been highly polished to reveal a beautiful black enamel ringed with grey. It is 5" long from root to tip, which means that it most likely came from a particularly large shark, perhaps 60' long. It comes with a discreet acrylic stand for display. Custom metal stands are available upon request - please contact us.
