PURPLE SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY - GRAPHIUM WEISKEI

THE SCIENCE:

The purple-spotted swallowtail, Graphium weiskei, is considered one of the most beautiful and desirable of all butterflies. While its underside is a basic brown, its topside is black with a highly unusual patchwork of purple, green, and blue spots. These spots are actually “windows” to pigments within the wings; the surface scales are non-pigmented. This species is found only in the remote highlands of Papua New Guinea at elevations between 4000 and 8000 feet above sea level. The species is named after Emil Weiskei (1867-1950), a German naturalist.

THE STORY:

Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!

I bought this for my uncle! He collects them. They are absolutely beautiful, especially when displayed in / under a light. I want to buy one for myself next! Very nicely framed as well.
