Rajah Brooke's Birdwing - Trogonoptera brookiana

THE SCIENCE:

Also known as the Rajah Brooke’s Birdwing, Trogonoptera brookiana is a distinctive butterfly that thrives throughout the rainforests of the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatra, and various small islands west of Sumatra. The species was named in 1855 after James Brooke, the then-Rajah of Sarawak (in Borneo). It is Malaysia’s national butterfly! Males are considerably more striking than females, boasting black wings with several fang-shaped, electric-green markings on each forewing, and a more solid patch of electric-green on each hindwing. The females’ wings are brown, with markings of a much more subdued shade of green, and a few white markings near each wingtip.

THE STORY:

Grab a specimen of Malaysia’s very charming national butterfly today! It may even serve as a constant reminder to visit the beautiful country one day, if you haven’t already. Our all-natural, intact specimens (no fake parts here!) are all of first-rate quality, delicately prepared, mounted, and framed with double-glass glazing in our very own fabrication studio in Upstate New York. We model our frames from solid fine ashwood, and they’re available in both a matte-black, and a natural finish.

Our framed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!

    Rajah Brooke's

Posted by Unknown on Mar 2nd 2020

I collect specimens of framed insects and the craftsmanship of Evolution is superior to other products. The aesthetic of the Rajah Brooke's Birdwing is exotic. The photo on the website doesn't show the red markings on the body of the butterfly which contrast beautifully with the green markings. Expect variation in color, as the green markings on my Rajah Brooke's are more lime green than mint as shown on the website.
