THE SCIENCE

Charoite is a rare silicate mineral that was only first described in 1978. It can only be found in the Aldan Shield, in Siberia. Shields are parts of the earth's crust that were originally formed when the earth first cooled down enough to form solid land, four billion years ago. This means that those parts of the earth are relatively unaffected by tectonic plates shifts and the minerals formed there are the oldest things on the planet.

THE STORY

This sphere is 2.5" in diameter and is indeed a perfect sphere. It has been polished to a beautiful shine by a lapidary machine. This sphere comes with a small acrylic ring for display. Other display options may be available if desired - please contact us for more information.
