The Monarch Butterfly - Danaus plexippus

Evolution is perhaps best known for its signature framed insects, but we've started experimenting with displays that are more three dimensional! Insects mounted in domes allow for a 360-degree view of your specimen. We decided to use a simple brass rod so that the butterfly is the center of attention.

Did you know that monarch larvae eat only milkweed? This has the evolutionary advantage of making them poisonous to predators, ensuring the survival of the species. The monarch butterfly is probably the best-known butterfly in the New World. Native to the Americas, it has spread or been gradually introduced to other places around the world, from Europe to Australia.

All Evolution's butterflies are sustainably farm raised and wild populations are not negatively impacted. We also only use complete specimens of the highest quality that will last a lifetime. All are prepared by our skilled artisans in our studio in Upstate New York.

Our domed insects are made-to-order. Please allow up to two weeks for your order to be completed. If you need your order sooner than this, please contact us at 212-343-1114 x401 or fabrication@theevolutionstore.com and we will do our best to accommodate you!
